On June 5, Darcy Huffman was received as a new member of St. Mark.
Darcy grew up in both Snohomish and a small town in Southeast Kansas called Sedan. She also lived in a number of other states including Arkansas, Alabama, and Colorado. For eight years, Darcy lived in Germany where she worked in military banking.
Darcy grew up in the Lutheran church. Most recently, she attended Good Shepherd in Olympia where she was the Communication and Resource Director for 8 years. Darcy is currently the Vice-President of the Southwestern Washington Synod.
For forty years, Darcy worked in banking, finance, and risk management. Currently she is on the Olympia School District’s Board of Directors. She is also on the board of Quixote Communities, a non-profit that provides permanent supportive housing (tiny homes) for people experiencing homelessness in Olympia, Orting, and Shelton. Darcy is also very active in solving food insecurity for everyone in our state.
Darcy keeps busy with family and travel. She and her husband Trevor Sandison have three sons, Sean, Trevin, and Cam and two grandkids, Channing and Autumn. “Trevor and I love to travel. We recently returned from a trip to Italy and are already planning our next get away.” As for leisure activities, Darcy “loves to play in the dirt” and spend time in their backyard with a good book and a glass of wine.
When asked about her impressions of St. Mark Darcy shared, “St. Mark is a wonderful, welcoming church. I love the focus of helping families in our community – especially partnering with the local school district. I’m also loving the variety of wonderful music and the relaxed atmosphere. What a fabulous place to worship. You are already doing a great job to help me feel welcome!”
