Through scripture and music, the message of Transfiguration was vividly portrayed at St. Mark on Sunday February 7. When Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, he took disciples with him to witness. What they saw and heard will forever be remembered… “the appearance of his face changed and his clothes became dazzling white”. God’s voice is heard from a cloud, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” Thus we know, through his words and works, that Jesus was given a superpower…the superpower of LOVE! We know of story after story where Jesus uses his LOVE to bring people to God.
Songs from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s were featured throughout the service to illustrate how LOVE changes things. The song One Love tells us to “Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.” Bridge Over Troubled Waters shows that when we “lay me down” (i.e. with the Lord), our pain and darkness are taken away.
We are called to use the superpower given to us by God and modeled for us by Jesus…the greatest superpower of all…LOVE!
