On this 4th Sunday after Pentecost, Pastor Eric preached from a rocking chair to illustrate a loving parent, nurturing and fiercely protecting their child. In this same way, from birth we are comforted and protected by God. We are sure of that because He writes our name in heaven.
In today’s gospel from Luke 10:1-11, 16-20, Jesus sends harvesters and laborers ahead, to places he is planning to go, and “commissions” them to bring only peace to the homes in these towns…to cure the sick and say to the people, “The kingdom of God has come near to you”.
Jesus’s message is the same today. We are “sent ahead”, to bring peace to others, to love and comfort them, and to share the good news that their names, too, are written in heaven.
