The Sunshine Singers is a group of singers and musicians from St. Mark who are bringing music to members of our congregation who reside at assisted living and memory care facilities. The group has had several practice sessions and visits to care communities over the last couple of months. Responses have been positive from our home-bound members and other residents attending, and some even sing along with the show tunes and old familiar numbers.
Research studies have shown that all sorts of music can have a positive effect on the brain. Music appears to be a unique and powerful stimulus for “reaffirming personal identity and social connections, even in individuals with dementia” (Dr. Ronald Devere, MD).
The Sunshine Singers have extended an invitation for others to join them in this important ministry. The only requirement is “the desire to bring joy to others”! If you are interested, watch the Sunday bulletin or call the church office for meeting times and locations.
