On this 14th Sunday after Pentecost, our Gospel (John 6:56-69) tells of the disciples being offended by Jesus’s claim that his followers must eat his flesh and drink his blood. Jesus told them he is the bread that comes from heaven and whoever eats this bread will live forever. With that, Jesus gave his disciples a choice…turn away or follow him. Peter was the only disciple to ask what alternatives they really had; to whom else would they go?
Pastor David reminded us that we have already been chosen by God. And, in turn, we are invited to choose God over and over again. We make this decision many times a day. And often it is a difficult choice. But like Peter, in our hearts we know, the only real choice is the life-giving choice.
