In today’s Gospel, John 14:1-14, Jesus tells his disciples that in “the place that he is going”, he has prepared a place for them as well. When they questioned where that place is and how they will know the way, Jesus assures them, “I am the way”. He attempts to further allay their doubts by saying, “The one who believes in me will also do the works that I do, and in fact, will do greater works.”
Pastor Eric reminded us that when we serve and love, that is what a Christian looks like. We at St. Mark are following Jesus’s “way”. And we can accomplish amazing things, as evidenced in our work with the Community Garden, the Prison Congregation Living Stones, Clean Kids and Mt. View Elementary School.
We don’t have to wait until our last breath to “see the way”. We don’t have to be in that place prepared for us to know we are believers. What we can do is continue to live out Jesus’s command to love one another and extend God’s mercy to the world we live in. That is really what a Christian looks like.
