At Jacob’s well, things happened. Jesus asked the Samaritan woman to give him a drink. He told her that those drinking this water will be thirsty again. But, “those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty”.
The Samaritan woman went into the city and told of meeting a prophet, possibly the Messiah, who knew all about her, and was offering the water of eternal life. After giving her testimony, she invited them back to see him themselves. And after they went and listened, they said “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.”
Pastor Eric compared this story to what we can do as a congregation. We have heard, we believe, and we can give testimony that the spring of living water gushes up to eternal life…the promise Jesus gives us when we believe. Pastor Eric encouraged us to follow Jesus in service to others, especially the lost, the marginal, and specifically the 137 homeless, unaccompanied youth in our partner school district. Pastor Eric, liaisons from the school district and government leaders are exploring an idea of building 5 tiny homes on our property to house a segment of this population. So, as you contemplate this week’s gospel lesson (John 4), ask yourself how you can be a “spring of gushing water” for these youth, or for others in need.
