On Sunday, 1.22.17, St. Mark Lutheran Church welcomed Mary Mortenson, Director of Prison Congregations of America (PCA). The mission of PCA is to collaborate with Christian denominations and prison officials to establish prison congregations across America. Mary is a South Dakota resident, has been involved in prison ministries for about 20 years, and has been director of PCA since 2008.
Mary thanked the people of St. Mark for their continued financial and prayerful support of the Living Stones Prison Ministry at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton. The St. Mark Lutheran Church Endowment Grant was awarded to PCA in 2016, and our annual gift to Living Stones continues. Mary shared that the prison congregation model that we support at Washington Corrections Center is now being considered for 2 additional prisons in Washington State. Mary presented St. Mark with a gift, a print of a painting done by an inmate in a South Dakota prison, in appreciation of our giving.
Mary’s full message to our congregation is available by clicking the link below.
For those who would like to become personally involved with prison ministries, St. Mark will be worshiping with Living Stones Prison Ministry at WCC in Shelton on March 4, 2017. Your presence is a visible sign of God’s love and grace to the men of Living Stones. If you would like to go along (adults only), please contact Pastor Eric or the church office.
