So, what is your name? Most of us will respond with our first, middle and last name. Once in a while, someone (thanks Ken L!) will answer,”I am a loved child of God.” As Pastor Beth pointed out on this second Sunday of Epiphany, NAMES are an important part of our identity. God says, “I have called you by name. You are mine.” Thus, our names are holy.
When God names us, we are then called to live our lives following Jesus’ example. In our Hymn of the Day, Jesus asks, “Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?” And we answer, “Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.”
So, if this summons, indeed, echoes true with you, spend some time this week considering how you are living out your identity, your life, as a named, chosen, loved child of God?
