On this 21st Sunday after Pentecost, we are reminded that the “body and blood of Jesus in holy communion have made us clean”. Today’s Gospel tells of the 10 lepers who asked for mercy from Jesus. He granted their request, healed all ten, and sent them on their way to share the good news. Only one of them, when he saw that he been made clean, turned back, praised God loudly and thanked Jesus at his feet.
Pastor Eric gave us a mantra which we repeated over and over during his sermon. We are God’s body. He wants our attention. We are to show mercy. In essence, by paying attention and showing mercy to others, we are thanking God for cleansing us. He is sending us on our way to share the good news of God’s mercy.
In keeping with the lesson, Pastor Eric listed 7 ways we can “pay attention” and “show mercy”. They are real and they are specific. And we were urged to get involved in one, or more than one, of these ways to do God’s work with our hands.
