Pastor Beth’s sermon today talked about God’s grace and love when the human condition becomes painful. She shared her personal story of a double concussion a year ago, and its profound repercussions in her life today. Memory loss has caused her to forget important things (Important things a “Pastor” shouldn’t forget, she says”), multitasking is out of reach, it takes her much longer to do things, and it is all frustrating and discouraging.
Over the past year, no matter how hard she tried, she could not make it better. She found herself, over time, questioning her self-worth, and ultimately depressed – what she called, “Dancing on a Fragile Line”.
She has done some research and found that depression is a very common condition (16 million suffer depression) and 50 % of those depressed do not seek help because of the Stigma associated with it. Thankfully the loving community around her helped her seek the help of her Physician and things are looking brighter.
Her strong suggestion to those of us “dancing on a fragile line” – Don’t dance alone! Life is Hard. Reach out and don’t hide it, because depression not addressed can become deadly.
Faith in God does not guarantee that we won’t have challenges. We do, however, have each other and the example Jesus set for us to help each other, and love each other. We are ALL human (even Pastors!), Pastor Beth says, AND we are all loved and forgiven children of God.
