The Gospel of Luke (chapter 11) says, “Knock and the door will be opened for you”. On this 10th Sunday after Pentecost, we were reminded that God always hears and answers prayer. When Jesus first taught his disciples The Lord’s Prayer, he encouraged them to child-like trust and persistence in prayer. When we pray for our daily bread or forgiveness or deliverance from evil, we are essentially knocking on God’s door.
Pastor Eric used the illustration of a boat that opens its sail and is moved by the wind. We open our hearts in prayer to God, and open our ears to hear the wind of His answer. When we all pray together, opening our sails to God, His breath moves and guides us to do his work in the world. We are the original “love boats!”
So, we are encouraged to pray, every day, for the big things…peace, mercy and love in the world. And we, in turn, can expect big things from “Our Father in Heaven…”.
