In this Sunday’s Gospel, 13th chapter of Matthew, Jesus uses the parable of several types of soil: the well traveled path, rocky ground, thorny ground, good soil…and describes how seeds grow in each. Jesus invites us to look at our life, our heart, our soul, our actions, to see how we sow our seeds, and how grounded in Christ our lives really are.
Pastor Beth suggests we each take a “Soil Analysis” of the ground of our life right now. How well “grounded” are you? Are you a well traveled path where seeds get eaten up at first chance? Are you rocky ground, growing…but no depth or roots there? Are you living among life-choking thorns? Or are you one of those thorns choking the life out of someone else? Or are you like good soil, bearing good fruit in your life?
The seed of the love of GOD has been planted deep within each of us. We are called to be sowers of God’s love, to be generous with what we have, gracious and loving, forgiving and indiscriminate. It is not up to us to judge the soil on which these seeds of love fall. We are merely called to sow the seeds of love generously, extravagantly, abundantly, recklessly! The rest is up to GOD.
