Palm Sunday Passion Narrative

Many members of the congregation helped bring the dramatic message of Palm Sunday alive at St. Mark. The Passion Narrative, according to the Gospel of Matthew, was presented through responsive readings, special instrumental and vocal music, and our choir singing rounds of “Hosanna, Hosanna!” We all waved palm leaves commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The Story was further enhanced by the ever-changing Altar Art, in the form of banners and a wooden cross constructed from branches and drapes, which has graced the sanctuary through Lent.

Because this story is so central to our faith, we heard Matthew’s account of the passion on Palm Sunday and we will hear John’s version on Good Friday.  Holy week will culminate in the celebration of the three days of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. Let us continue to prepare for Holy Week by remembering Jesus’ own preparation…for the suffering he endured to carry out the will of God, and for the salvation you and I were given through His sacrifice.
