Pastor Eric began today’s sermon by singing “I Love to Tell the Story” and asking… “What’s your story?”
The Bible is God’s story…but it is our story too. In Genesis, Adam and Eve became aware of their shame, guilt, and sin. They talked directly to God and soon realized they were (as we are) human. And humans may do things they aren’t supposed to do. In Numbers, Moses talks to God, asking, “Forgive us according to your steadfast love.” God gave Moses (and us) Ten Commandments to follow. Do we follow all ten? We’re human, we do our best.
The story continues to show that we humans tried and failed, and tried and failed. So Micah asks God for the “bottom line”. God said simply, “Be kind and loving, do justice and practice humility”. And later Paul re-emphasized that since the beginning of the human story, we are told that God’s Grace is for all of us, because…we are human…and we fail.
Pastor Eric’s sermon was followed by the Hymn of the Day, which tied it all together with the refrain, “We see God, here by our side, walking our way.” To (re)hear the Gospel and sermon for this 4th Sunday after Epiphany, click on the link below.
