Journey to the cross….That you may have life!
Ash Wednesday, March 5th begins our 2014 Lenten journey. We know that it is a journey to the cross. We know that on this journey we find life and death and new life. This journey gives our life meaning and purpose. It reminds us of who we are and how we are to live in this world. On this journey, we remember that this world does not have the final word. God does.
On Ash Wednesday, we begin our Lenten journey with services at 12 noon and 7:00pm. As we worship we are marked with a cross of ashes and celebrate the gift of bread and wine in Holy Communion.
Each following Wednesday during Lent, March 12, 19, 26, and April 2 and 9 we will gather at 5:45pm for fellowship and a simple supper of soup and bread. At 6:30 we will move into the sanctuary for worship using the “That You May Have Life” liturgy written by Marty Haugen and Susan Briehl. We will hear readings from the Gospel of John and encounter Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the man born blind, Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Their journeys with Jesus invite us to experience the One who is the Light of the World, Living Water, the Way the Truth, the Resurrection, and the Life.
On Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 11:00 during Lent, we will meet these characters again. We will journey a little further with them, praying the psalms and reflecting on what it means to live today as followers of Christ.
Come and journey with us at St. Mark!
