This is the first year that corn has been grown in the St. Mark Community Garden. Gary D. asked this spring if he could try to grow some, and we told him to go ahead but warned him that the soil might not have enough nutrients.
If you have watched the garden you know that the corn has grown GREAT!!! At last Wednesday evening’s gleaning, 120 ears were harvested for the Thurston County Food Bank! And there is more to come.
The same Gary D. that has faithfully tended the corn has also tended a large patch of green beans. And there are many more of those to harvest also!
We will glean every Wednesday evening at 5:30 through September. JOIN US as the numbers of gleaners has shrunk to a hearty few!
