These are the highlights of the 1st of the 4 sermons by Andy Stanley. They are very engaging, and enlightening! If you miss one and want to see it, come by the church and watch it mid-week!
Reflection:
Pastor Andy Stanley offers us ways to practice being rich, so that when we become rich he wants us to be really good at it. That is the goal of this series, how to be rich toward God.
- The more Americans make, the less they give
- $50,000 = 6% giving
- $200,000 = 4% giving
- Higher = lower percentage of giving
It’s about higher percentage giving – not dollars.
No strings-attached generosity is a hallmark of what it means to follow Jesus. It is:
- Powerful
- Tears down walls
- Changes lives and communities
- Is hard to resist
- Unbridled generosity allows us to reflect in the real world that God could not love me more (the gift of Jesus), and nothing I could do would make God love me less. When God’s love truly sinks into our hearts, we don’t give because it works, we are generous because God first gave something to us. God says, like Father, like Son; I want you to look like one – to do for others what others can’t do for you, just as I have done for you what you could never do for me.
- Extravagant generosity is our core and a powerful reflection of the Gospel.
