On the other side of the globe the entire world was tuned in to the Opening Ceremonies celebrating the beginning of the pinnacle of sporting endeavors – the 2012 Olympic Games. What they didn’t realize they were missing was an incredibly worldwide-worthy display of softball prowess by the St Mark Softballers right here in little ol’ Lacey Washington! While accomplished international sportsters reveled in their abilities on the global stage, the fearless Diamond Park Troupe of St Mark quietly but confidently showed what they’re made of, using Field #1 at the RAC as their veritable venue!
Allowing two runs from the opposing team in the top of the first inning, St Mark marched right back in the bottom of the first by batting through their entire line-up to take a commanding 7-2 lead going into the second inning. Out of the blocks fast, keep up the intensity, have fun, and don’t look back! The rest of the game though was not without repeated threats of a comeback by the opposition as they kept attacking with some pretty aggressive baserunning, but those defiant St. Markers just wouldn’t back down. Never letting the lead lapse to the other team’s advantage for the rest of the game, they stayed focused, eyes on the prize, and showed everybody that they are true medal contenders in the softball arena!
Providing lots of supportive chatter from the Cracker Jack Crowd in the St Mark side of the grandstands, spectators were treated to an evening of softball flair that was defined by an impressive display of batting, baserunning, focused defense, and just outright good sport!
“Altius, Citius, Fortius”……….”faster, higher, stronger” in the lingo of Olympic sport. Now, as far as we’re concerned here in our local world of softball, they can add to that the following exclamation: “Excitus”………………….”flat-out fun time!” –Sports Reporter “Moose M.”
