Last Wednesday, June 29th, we ate our potluck meal with the Call Committee members, and then finished weeding and hilling the potatoes. Now all 20 rows have had their first weeding and hilling. The blooms are coming on the potatoes.
Our irrigation specialist Bob, placed irrigation around the peas, and they are in full bloom and production. We harvested snow peas, chard, lettuce, and broccoli, sending 27# of produce to the Thurston County Food Bank!! So far that is a total of 35# of produce – a nice start!
Tomorrow night, July 6th, we will have another gathering at 6pm – a “Feed ‘n’ Weed”. Bring a potluck dish to share, and your gardening equipment and join us! If you have gardening questions, please bring them as we have several seasoned gardeners to answer your questions.
At our July 20th potluck we will have a guest speaker, Karen, a nutritionist from St. Mark, that will talk about “Food Safety in the Garden”.
Thanks to the SMOGS (St. Mark Old Guys) the raised beds now have wood chips all around the perimeter of the garden so you can stroll through and not even get your feet dirty! The garden is BEAUTIFUL right now so come on out and feast your eyes on God’s creation!
