Thanks to all the hard work and planning by Pam C, the Garden Spaghetti feed and silent auction were a BIG success! The food was delicious, and our key-note speaker, Robert Coit, Executive Director of the Thurston County Food Bank, was very interesting and informative! Ron Lawson, Lacey City Council member, also spoke briefly about his passion for organic gardening in Lacey.
The final tally is not final, but we believe that just over $2000.00 was raised by our congregation! This means that Thrivent can allocate all of the matching dollars – $500.00 to us – for a total of $2500.00. So what are we going to do with this money???
- The cost of the main water line from the church to the garden is about $1300.00
- The drip irrigation system for the potato patch will cost about $300.00
- Seed potatoes, Oregon sugar pod peas, and plant starting material for the Sunday School will be purchased.
- Money will be saved for future irrigation of the rest of the field next year.
Mark you calendar for potato planting April 9th and 16th at 9am! Come with garden utensils and see how many potato starts it takes for 6,000 square feet!!!!
